The Porsche 908/02 #60, entered by Team Auto Usdau at the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, was driven by German racer Hans-Dieter Weigel and Swiss endurance specialist Claude Haldi. Weigel was both a driver and the owner of the car, having acquired chassis 908-022 from Porsche, while Haldi brought extensive Le Mans experience to the pairing. The open-cockpit, mid-engine 908/02 was powered by Porsche’s 3.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-eight, producing roughly 350 hp, and was notable for its exceptionally lightweight construction and compact “Flunder” (Flounder) bodywork. The yellow-and-red #60 qualified 21st with a 3:50.0 lap, but unfortunately retired after only six hours because of a gearbox failure.
