The 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster #15, chassis GT/109, was the only open-top GT40 to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, driven by French racing veterans Maurice Trintignant and Guy Ligier for Ford France. Trintignant was an experienced Grand Prix and sports-car racer, while Ligier was an up-and-coming driver who would later become famous as the founder of the Ligier Formula One team. Painted in Ford France’s distinctive white, blue, and red colors, the roadster was powered by a 4.7-liter Ford V8 and stood apart from the enclosed GT40s with its unique open cockpit. The car retired after just 11 laps when its gearbox failed, but its rarity and status as the only GT40 roadster to race at Le Mans make it an especially fascinating piece of Ford racing history.
