BAR Supertec 1999 Spain GP Test Car J. Villeneuve 1:18

The BAR Supertec 01 test car, driven by Jacques Villeneuve during 1999 testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain, was an important development machine for British American Racing’s debut Formula 1 season. Villeneuve, the 1997 Formula 1 World Champion and 1995 Indianapolis 500 winner, completed 65 trouble-free laps during a March 1999 Barcelona test and recorded the quickest time of the day, 1:24.80, while working through an extensive technical and setup program. The BAR 01 was powered by a 3.0-liter Supertec FB01 V10 producing approximately 780 hp, mounted in a carbon-fiber composite chassis and coupled to a six-speed semi-automatic gearbox. Particularly distinctive was its famous split Lucky Strike/555 “zipper” livery, created to satisfy FIA rules while allowing BAR to promote two different cigarette brands on the same car.
