loading...

The 1984 Porsche 956 No. 47, entered by German outfit Obermaier Racing, competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with drivers Jürgen Lässig, South African George Fouché, and Canadian John Graham. Powered by Porsche's formidable 2.65-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing approximately 600 horsepower, the Group C prototype featured innovative ground-effect aerodynamics, a lightweight aluminum monocoque chassis, and exceptional high-speed performance. Carrying the distinctive Obermaier Racing colors, the No. 47 demonstrated competitive pace, qualifying 25th overall and climbing as high as 12th during the race. Unfortunately, its Le Mans challenge ended in the 18th hour following an accident after completing 147 laps. Despite its early retirement, this privately entered Porsche 956 represents the determination of independent racing teams competing against the established factory and customer Porsche squads of the Group C era.
