The 1984 Porsche 956 No. 26, entered by Preston Henn's T-Bird Swap Shop Racing team, achieved an outstanding second-place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driven by French racing legend Jean Rondeau and American driver John Paul Jr., alongside team owner Preston Henn, the Porsche completed 358 laps in a remarkable display of speed, reliability, and endurance. Its 2.65-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine produced approximately 600 horsepower, while its innovative ground-effect aerodynamics generated tremendous downforce and cornering ability. The No. 26 was particularly notable because it was a privately entered Porsche competing against the factory's absence that year, proving that independent teams could challenge for overall victory. Finishing just two laps behind the winning Joest Racing Porsche, this machine remains a memorable chapter in the legendary history of the Porsche 956.
