The 1998 Nissan R390 GT1 Le Mans Test Car represents an important chapter in Nissan's ambitious return to international endurance racing. Developed by Nissan Motorsports (NISMO) in collaboration with Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), the R390 GT1 underwent extensive testing and aerodynamic development before its 1998 Le Mans campaign. Its mid-mounted 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produced more than 650 horsepower, delivering tremendous acceleration and high-speed performance. Featuring a lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, advanced ground-effect aerodynamics, and a six-speed sequential gearbox, the R390 was engineered for the demands of 24-hour competition. These testing sessions helped refine the car's reliability and handling, ultimately contributing to Nissan's outstanding 1998 Le Mans result, when all four factory entries finished inside the overall top ten, including a historic third-place finish.
