The Ferrari 312T2 #11, driven by Austrian racing legend Niki Lauda, secured victory for Scuderia Ferrari at the 1977 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami, winning by just 5.2 seconds over Jody Scheckter. Lauda, who had courageously returned to racing following his near-fatal 1976 Nürburgring accident, went on to capture his second Formula One World Drivers’ Championship in 1977. The Ferrari 312T2 was distinguished by its 3.0-liter flat-12 engine, producing approximately 510 horsepower, and its innovative transverse-mounted five-speed gearbox, which helped provide excellent handling and weight distribution. Its iconic Rosso Corsa bodywork, low-profile aerodynamic design, and powerful twelve-cylinder engine made the #11 a defining example of Ferrari’s Formula One engineering during the 1970s.
