Ferrari 166MM #22 Winner 1949 24h Le Mans 1:43

The Ferrari 166 MM No. 22, driven by Luigi Chinetti and British owner-driver Peter Mitchell-Thomson, better known as Lord Selsdon, made history by winning the 1949 24 Hours of Le Mans and securing Ferrari’s first-ever victory at the legendary race. The triumph was especially remarkable because Ferrari had only been founded two years earlier, and the 166 MM was competing against much larger-engined rivals. Its 2.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 produced approximately 140 horsepower and was paired with elegant Touring Superleggera aluminum coachwork, combining lightweight construction with classic Italian styling. Chinetti drove for more than 23 hours, nursing the car through mechanical difficulties to finish first after 236 laps. This victory launched Ferrari’s enduring Le Mans legend.
