The Chevrolet Corvette C8.R was a landmark racing machine as the first mid-engine Corvette built for GT competition, marking a dramatic departure from the front-engine layout used by previous generations of Corvette race cars. Developed alongside the C8 Stingray, it features a lightweight racing chassis, sophisticated aerodynamics, and a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V8 designed specifically for endurance racing. The C8.R made its competition debut in 2020 and immediately demonstrated its potential, earning six IMSA victories and seven pole positions during its inaugural championship season while helping Chevrolet secure the GT Manufacturers title. Its mid-engine configuration improved weight distribution and allowed engineers to develop more efficient aerodynamics, while extensive technology transfer between the race car and production Corvette made the C8.R particularly significant. It ultimately became the foundation for the production Z06's racing-inspired 5.5-liter V8 architecture.

material than in zinc alloy. That makes the finished body closer to the true scale gauge of real car bodies.
