Detailed Description

One of the most classy and also successful racing sports cars of all times. Ferrari`s flagship for endurance races. Pininfarina was the responsible designer for the extra light Aluminium body. The building of the bodywork was done by coachbuilder Scaglietti. The victory at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1958 by Olivier Gendebien and Phil Hill found its way into automobile history. The name Testa Rossa was created because of its red painted valve hoods of the powerful 300 hp 12 cylinder engine. His body is more than spectacular. The so-called Pontoon Fenders gave him is extraordinary look. The CMC model is an authentic replication of an original 1958 model.

Chassis No. 0714 went into the manufacturing of the second Testa Rossa, which was earmarked for Mr. Piere Drogo, a gentleman from Venezuela. In early December 1957, the new car was delivered to him in Modena, Italy. He intended to pilot it in as many races as possible. One of the modifications he made was to install an additional air inlet underneath the doors so as to improve the cooling of the rear wheel drum brakes. His first race took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina in January 1958. Since then, more than half a century has passed.

In the course of time, Testa Rossa (meaning “Red Head” in English) became a most successful and best-known Ferrari model of all time. Perfectly restored and painted in deep black with a flamboyant red/white border on its nose, the car with the starting No. DM124 was offered at “Leggenda e Passione,” an auction that took place in Maranello, Italy in May 2009. The bidding went as high as 9.02 million Euros, and the car changed hands.

To build this 1:18 scale CMC model, it takes1,640 single parts in addition to the extraordinary handcraftsmanship that puts them together. The authentic replication of this model also makes it time-enduring in terms of value and collectability. The red /white border on its nose and the metallic silver cover of the headlights are distinctively characteristics of the chassis number 0714.  A sharp, detail-exact replication of the cockpit and dashboard complete with instruments and controls. The seats are covered in real leather and framed with beige stripes. No less faithful to the original is the steering wheel with three slotted spokes.
